Hello and happy new year! We have two great new releases to kick off 2010 in style, sure to make you move and keep you warm if you’ve been feeling the cold. We wanted to announce that, from next month, there will be a few changes to this newsletter. You probably know about our other labels Munster, Electro Harmonix and the recently created Vinilísssimo. Although each label focuses on certain styles of music, there is a degree of overlap in that, for example, Los Saicos have records on Electro Harmonix, appear on Vampisoul’s “Back To Peru” series and have a box set coming out soon on Munster. Likewise, some Spanish bands with tracks on our “Sensacional Soul” series will have their LPs reissued on Vinilísssimo. So we’d like to use this newsletter to let you know about the new releases across all our labels, as we think they might be of interest. If you don’t know our other labels, click on the links at the end to find out more.

Some press about our latest releases:

MARTA KUBISOVÁ

“Fantastic rare-Mod floor-fillers, with brilliant basslines, the fuzziest guitars, phenomenal horn arrangements and the much-underrated psychedelic jew’s harp. A great wrong is being righted here. 4 stars.” MOJO (UK)

“Groovy Alan Haven-style organ, fly fuzz guitar, businesslike brass and the ubiquitous funky drummer abound throughout, while certain tracks – ‘Svlikám Lásku’, ‘Legendy’ – even resemble The Carrie Nations from the soundtrack of Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls. This is solid stuff and an invaluable righting of a historical wrong.” RECORD COLLECTOR (UK)

EMIL VIKLICKÝ

“For those interested in Czechoslovak jazz, this is an essential archive collection of excellent and important material. It is also a great listen: a recording full of life and excitement and fun.” PRAGUE JAZZ (Czech Republic)

“Viklicky is no mere impersonator and is both a gifted arranger and composer as illustrated on the big-band piece ‘Boston’, with a Latin undercurrent that could be either an impressive MPS recording, or even a Thad Jones/Mel Lewis outing.” UK VIBE (UK)

BACK TO PERU VOL 2

“The best of this stuff is as unhinged as any US psychedelic gem: ‘Tormenta en el mar de la tranquilidad’ by Los Jaguar's is a berserk cross between Link Wray and the 13th Floor Elevators. You'll be pleasurably surprised.” THE GUARDIAN (UK)

“A wide variety of the underground pop scene from ’64 – ’74 in all of its many shades: psych, soul, surf, ethno folk pop, everything with a beat and a bowlcut to its name”. LOWCUT (Denmark)
